Travel day (01.02.25)
Travel day, up nice and early (4.45am) ready to catch the Eurostar to Brussels this morning, we did travel to London the night before to save the morning rush and the fact that the trains on weekend weren’t running. We stayed in a cheap hotel called kings cross inn, wasn’t the best but did it’s job for the night and was cheap.
Our train was delayed slightly but still left by 7.30 ish, originally due to leave at 7.05. The journey to Brussels was good, only took 2 hours, so we were there by half 10. We then walked onto our hotel called citybox brussels, which was really good price for the 3 nights and was a 30 min walk from the station and 20 min walk into the centre so well situated for what we needed.
When we got to the hotel we tried to check in on the electronic terminals which was easy to do, it told us we was too early but gave us the option to store our luggage and gave us a key card to open the door to be able to do that.
We walked from the hotel down to the main square grand place. It's always such a beautiful square, the buildings are just beautiful to look at, such amazing architecture. As we were pretty early some of the bars weren’t yet open so we ended up in the Hard Rock Cafe for drink and chill before moving on.
We walked round for a while, exploring the city before of course coming across an Irish bar, as the football was about to start we went in for a drink or two keeping an eye on the scores. We were starting to get hungry, so we moved onto one of my favs ….. Brewdog, had a drink and grabbed some food which was well needed as we had a long day and feeling shattered, when we had finished we walked back to the hotel to relax, as we walked back the sky looked awesome, especially from the top of the city where the view wheel was situated.
Day 1 (02.02.25)
Had a nice lay in the morning after a long day yest, My man is the best 💚, popped out to grab us a coffee and croissant to have before we went on our next adventure around the city.
Once we was up and ready to out we walked into the centre, went and saw the peeing boy fountain before having a drink in my fav pub in Brussels, Poechenellekelder.
This is a lovely old pub and has a massive menu of different Belgium beers to choose from, I could spend all day in here but did just stay for a couple before going to have a proper Belgium waffle, I’m not a sweet person much more savory but you do have to have a waffle when in Brussels as they are just soooooo nice! We don’t have much of a sweet tooth between us so one was enough to share, we went for the oreo flavour and was yummy.
We then went off to find somewhere to chill for a bit and again watch the footie so found another Irish bar, The Dubliner had a few drinks and watched the game, which was pants by the way, Utd like to try and ruin your day but luckily there was a live singer on which was good, cheered us up a bit after a crap result.
We found a food market called wolf to have some food before we headed back, this was nice and loads of different options from asian, indian, greek, italian etc, was hard to pick one but we settled on indian and had a lovely curry with some masala fries. It was fitting that when we walked back to the hotel the grand place was all lit up in green.
Day 2 (03.02.25)
Birthday day for Chris! We weren't in a rush to go out today so we just chilled out in the morning. Walking back towards the centre we went to drug opera for breakfast after a recommendation from a friend and it didn't disappoint. I had a lovely double ham and cheese toastie with eggs on top and Chris had a turkey and cheese toastie, sharing some fries between us as well. Would certainly go back and recommend to other, couple of drinks each and food was a really good price, was around 57 euros.
Once we finished here we went to one of the delirium cafe as they also do some banging beers and cider for Chris, we were pretty much the only ones in there so was nice and quiet, we was early so a pretty good time to go before it gets busy. We then went onto the illusion museum, we had fun and took some cool pics but did think it was expensive for 15 euro each for what it was.
Back to a different Delirium Cafe for a couple more drinks, we had a couple of odd ones in there including a green cactus beer, was actually pretty nice, once done we moved onto Boago for dinner and OMG totally recommend it!! It was so yummy, we had a chicken bao burger and a pulled brisket boa burger, sharing some pulled pork loaded fries, honestly it was so good!! We wanted to go for round 2 just because it was so nice but thought it would tip us over and be way too stuffed to move ha!
Home day (04.02.25)
Laid in until we had to leave at 11 to walk back to the station to get out 12.57 train, we was delayed by around 45 mis on the way back but otherwise was smooth trip back, we got the 14.53 from Euston back to Leighton Buzzard and home by around 15.45 so all in all was a good trip home, just gutted it was all over already it flew by! I love Brussels and would certainly go back again.
