12th July 2025 – Travel Day to Prague.

Early morning flight as always, although it makes you super tired as you get up at 1.45 am to get ready, drive to the airport, park and check in etc ready for our 6am flight it is well worth it!

We flew with Wizz, which personally I haven’t had any issues with was a smooth flight there, landed at around 9am, got to our pre booked taxi, something you don’t need to do in Prague as public transport is cheap but I am lazy and like to have everything sorted so I don’t need to worry about finding which bus/ train I need to catch and have any unnecessary stress.

We arrived at our hotel (hotel Amarilis) around 9.30/10am but were unable to check in (CI is at 14.00) but we were able to leave our bags safely and go for a walk round the city. It was about a 5min walk to the new town & 10 min walk to the old town. The weather was a bit cloudy and a little bit of drizzle but was still really warm and muggy, around 25 degrees.

We walked straight to the old town to see the astronomical clock, always a good sight to see whilst in Prague, and can get very busy there as it is popular.

We were getting hungry again now as we had our breakfast at the airport around 3am! So we went off to find Fat Cat bar as I knew from last time the food and drink was really nice there.

The food again was amazing, nice steak flatbread, buffalo strips and loaded cheesy, bacon fries with a few beers, perfect start to holiday.

Once we had eaten it was still spitting with a little rain so we decided to go to the sex machine museum which was around the corner, erm….. Interesting to say the least, so many random things in there and what they used to use in the olden days for all sorts…

After a long and busy first day with all the walking and travelling we were shattered so decided to walk back towards the hotel, we managed to check in all fine, went up to the rooftop area which was nice, more lovely views from up there, then went back out, just for a couple of drinks at the irish bar a few doors down before grabbing a few snack and going back to the room to relax and sleep!

Day 2 (Sunday 13.07.25)

Breakfast was included in our hotel so we got up around 9am and went down for breakfast. There was a good spread of cereals, continental & cooked, it was all lovely as well as your usual juice, tea and coffee, got us ready for the day ahead.

We walked to the dancing house, it is a really random shaped building hence the name but also had a lovely rooftop bar. Of course we had a beer each at the top and looked over the city, which has some lovely views of Prague castle. Although you do have to pay now to go out in the open at the top, is 150c each (£5) which last time I was here you didn’t have to pay as long as you bought a drink but is still well worth it for the views. We had a cloudy start to the day but soon brightened up and the temperature got up to around 29/30 degrees, super warm day!

Once we had finished here we went on back towards the new part of the city ready for our lunch at the Vytopna restaurant, which is a really cool place where you have model trains going around bringing you food and drink. It was a pretty simple menu, mostly burgers and chips but plenty of drinks to choose from, especially as they have their own brewery as well, we would 100% recommend it for anyone going to Prague to visit here, just make sure you book in advance as it can get really busy.

Once we had finished our lunch we needed a good walk to walk off all that food and drink, we went on towards the castle, we walked through the old town to charles bridge. It was really hot and sunny by this point so we were struggling with all the walking in the heat but we were still enjoying the views of Prague. I was mentally preparing myself all the way there on the walk for the steps leading up to the castle, it’s a hard old slog but well worth it in the end for the views.

As we were so hot and needed a rest we found a lovely little cafe in the grounds of the castle where we stopped for a loo break and a beer, before continuing on, looking round the grounds and back down the otherside. We managed to find the peeing men statue and walked past the really narrow alleyway, we didn’t bother to queue for it though as it is just an alleyway.

By this point we had walked almost 20,000 steps so we're pretty shattered, we found a lovely rooftop bar called Flyvista and had a cocktail in there before going on back to the hotel, we had a couple more cocktails at the hotel on the rooftop before deciding to go next door for an indian, it was a lovely meal in there and would recommend, it was called indian kitchen and was right next door to our hotel Amarilis.

Day 3 (Monday 14.07.25)

Hot start today, already 24 degrees when we left the hotel, we decided to go along the river to where i stayed on my 1st trip by Admiral botel as I knew Staropramen brewery was there, however after walking all that way we found it was closed on a Monday which was annoying but none the less we enjoyed a nice walk along the river in the sun.

This managed to take us up to about midday when all the river bars started to open so we stopped at Vltava Naplavka and had a couple of pints there on the water watching the world go by, it was really nice and chilled which is what we needed after a busy day yest. We decided we was going to walk into the town to the Sparta Prague shop to see if we could find a decent priced footie shirt, however the shop was very disappointing, it was more like just a prague shop with a few random shirts in so we carried on walking and found another Irish bar called Mccarthys, they do like their Irish bars over there!

We tried a couple of cocktails, I had a blue margarita and Chris had one called trash can, literally had everything in it!

Finishing up there we were starting to get peckish, we knew we should try something different but couldn’t resist going back to Fat Cat brewery & pub where we almost had the same just a different flavour flatbread and more cocktails.

Once that had gone down we decided to try the specialty ice creams they do in Prague. Although nice, I though they were a bit odd as it was like ice cream in a sugary breaded baguette type thing, we had the oreo one and whilst it was nice, don’t think i’d be in a rush to have another one anytime soon.

We were still pretty shattered so around 4pm ish we walked back to the hotel and chilled for the evening, spent a while up on the roof terrace in the sun before getting a nice shower and bed!

Home Day (Tuesday 16.07.25)

We must have been shattered from the last few days as we slept in till around half 10 and missed brekkie! Typical as it is home day but gave us time to get all sorted ready for check out at 11am. We had a couple of hours to kill before taxi at 13.00 so we walked back down into the old town, grabbed an iced coffee & a strawberry lemonade before popping into a few shops where there were a few random and interesting bit we came across as in the pictures below.

Managed to get back to the hotel by 12.00 and the taxi arrived early at 12.45 so we were off on our way back to the airport ready for home.

Gutted another city break has passed so quickly but we loved every minute and Prague will always be one of my fav cities.

Onto Dublin next!
