London day trip 03.04.26, The Book of Mormon Theatre Show
03.04.26 - Day trip to London to see The Book Of Mormon.
Not the easiest trip to London, trains from Leighton Buzzard to London Euston weren't running all bank holiday weekend due to works on the track so all routes closed, meaning we had to go from Aylesbury, however due to works there as well we would of had to change at Princes Risborough, I hate having to change so found it easier just to drive to Princes Risborough and get the train from there. We got the 10.27am Train with our 2 for 1 travel card meaning a return for us both was only £38 instead of £46 so that was a good saving and glad we got our travel cards now for the year, they cost £30 for the year but you soon pay that back with the savings you make.
We got into London Marylebone at 11.20, station was really busy due to the closure at Euston but think we were lucky we were there on the Friday and not over the weekend where i think it will be heaving!
Straight down to the underground & caught the Bakerloo line to Oxford circus, we have a table booked for lunch at Flat Iron Steak in Soho so made our way towards there, we had a little bit of time to kill so we went to Carnaby Street & stopped off at The Shakespears Head and had a pint each in there, Aspalls & a Paulainer £15.60 which for London I didn't think. Flat Iron was only 2 mins round the corner, the staff sat us at the table and we put our order in, Flat Iron Steak and I had bone marrow & garlic Mash, Chris had bone marrow chips. both with peppercorn sauce, was blumin scrummy, plus a drink each it all come to £60, we also got a free ice cream at the end and was just what we needed prior to the show.
We walked to a pub called Nell Gwynne as we still had just over an hour until we needed to be at the Price of Wales Theatre. It was a lovely little pub hidden out of the way of the hustle and bustle of London although by the time we left it had started to get really busy already and this was around 14.00. We walked through Trafalgar square back towards the theatre, by the time we got there, there a bit of a queue outside to get in but it went down really quickly and we got to our seats, we had pretty good seats considering we only pain £35 each for a ticket. The show was brilliant, we certainly recommend The Book of Mormon, however if your easily offended it won't be for you. We found it really funny, some really catchy songs and crude jokes that made us cry with laughter, strong 10/10 from us.
As we went the matinee showing at 14.30 and was out around 17.00 we were going to walk around London for a bit however it was so busy, we only really walked through China town before making our way back to Marylebone. We still had about 30 min or so until our train so we went into the pub next to the station called the station master, just a lemonade for me as still had the drive home from Risborough, we grabbed a takeaway on the way home and finally got in around 20.30 pm had dinner and went to bed.
I love going to London but in the same breath I hate it, it's too peopley and tiring but I love the sights so very 50/50 on it, we will be back there though next weekend for the Ladies 6 nations at Twickenham, England Vs Ireland.
